HOW TO GET TO TAMRAGHT: AIRPORT, BUSES, TAXIS AND THE BEST TIME TO VISIT

You've booked the flight, the board bag is packed (or you've decided to rent), and now the practical question: how do you actually get to Tamraght? Good news: it's close to Agadir and there are several ways in, from a door-to-door transfer to a local bus that costs a few dirhams.

This guide covers the airport, buses and taxis, and the best time of year to come, with the sources we used so you can double-check anything before you travel. Prices and timetables change, so treat the numbers below as a guide rather than a promise.

Where is Tamraght?

Tamraght is a small surf village on the Atlantic coast north of Agadir, between Aourir and Taghazout. It's roughly 14 km from Agadir city, which makes it easy to reach but still very much a village: slow mornings, beach breaks and a relaxed surf community.

Getting from Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA) to Tamraght

Most visitors fly into Agadir Al Massira Airport. By road, the airport is about 40 km from Tamraght, a drive of roughly 50 minutes depending on traffic. If you book a retreat with us, the Airport Transfer is included both ways.

Pre-booked transfer

The simplest option, especially if you land late or have a board bag. A driver meets you and takes you straight to your accommodation. Many guesthouses and surf houses in the area can arrange one, and there are online transfer services too, including shared minivans that drop off door to door.

Taxi from the airport

Taxis wait outside arrivals. Always agree the price before you get in, check whether it covers luggage, and expect higher fares late at night.

Airport bus plus local bus

On a budget? Alsa runs an airport bus line into Agadir city (the Vallée des Oiseaux area). When it launched, the journey took about 50 minutes and a one-way ticket cost 50 MAD. From Agadir you can then take a local bus up the coast to Tamraght (see below). It takes longer, but it's the cheapest way in.

Getting from Agadir city to Tamraght

  • Local buses 32 and 33 run up the coast road through Tamraght. They're frequent during the day and cheap (around 5.50 MAD per person in early 2026), paid in cash on board. Ask the driver or a fellow passenger to tell you when you reach Tamraght, as stops aren't always where online maps put them.

  • Air-conditioned coach: a direct coach service to Tamraght can be booked online in advance, reported at around 50 MAD.

  • Grand taxi: grand taxis travel between towns and villages. You can share one with other passengers on a fixed route or hire the whole car. Agree the price before setting off.

  • Petit taxi: the small orange taxis in Agadir are for trips within the city, so they're useful for getting around Agadir but not for the ride up the coast.

When is the best time to visit Tamraght?

It depends on what you're coming for.

  • Learning to surf: Tamraght's beach breaks are known as beginner-friendly. Autumn (October–November) and summer (June–August) tend to bring smaller, gentler waves.

  • Bigger swell: roughly November to March is peak season, when Atlantic swells light up the famous point breaks around Taghazout.

  • Spring: April usually still has swell with fewer crowds.

The water is coldest in late winter, around 16–19°C, when a 4/3mm wetsuit is the usual choice. It's warmest around September, around 20–22°C, when a shorty or spring suit often does the job. Local surf schools and rental shops can advise on the day.

A few tips for your first visit

  • Try to arrive in daylight. Finding your accommodation on unfamiliar streets is much easier when the sun is out. For more on culture and travelling solo, read our girlie's guide to Tamraght.

  • Carry some cash in dirhams (MAD) for buses, taxis, cafés and small shops.

  • Save your accommodation's location offline and keep its phone number handy for the driver.

  • Check entry requirements for your nationality with your government's official travel advice before you fly.

Coming to Tamraght for a workshop or retreat?
